Now you can get up to a minute and a half to decide whether or not you want to spend money on that track on iTunes. For songs over 2:30 in length, Apple has increased the preview time. Changes are rolling out slowly so it’s not available on all songs, but poke around enough and you’ll find the option on a lot of top artists. The company wanted to do this much earlier, but it was held back from the initial September 1 because of legal issues, according to Apple Insider.
This is great news Apple, but what about the awesome ending of “Bohemian Rhapsody”? “Stairway to Heaven”? “LoveStoned / I Think She Knows (Interlude)”? Everyone knows the Nicki Minaj part of “Monster” is the best section of the song – but you’ll never know from the preview version on iTunes. Just fast forwarding to the “best” part of the song makes you miss out on the whole experience – plus what one person likes most can be different from another person. I guess I can just YouTube the song to see if I really like it, but how about saving me some time Apple and letting me preview the whole song once and then giving me clips after that? Think of it like back in the day when we all used to tape songs off the radio. Some of us will still find a way to rip the whole song from iTunes, but the majority of us would want to hear the whole album and buy it for convenience.
