While Google TV had been getting a lot of attention for television networks refusing to allow their content to be used, Yahoo has been quietly working on something it calls a “broadcast interactivity program” that may be about to get Mickey Mouse’s seal of approval.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Disney is in talks to sign on to Yahoo’s Connected TV initiative, which uses software built into over 6 million existing TV sets that allows viewers to use apps – or, as Yahoo call them, “widgets” – while watching their favorite programs. Sources say that Disney is considering starting with ABC, Disney and ESPN-branded widgets offering clips of shows and extra content unavailable elsewhere, although there is nervousness over piracy concerns and existing content distribution deals.
