Google is continuing to push into the e-book space with the purchase of eBook Technologies, a company focused on developing both hardware and software to create and distribute content for electronic readers. The acquisition, announced by Google yesterday, will allow the company to – according to a statement on the front page of its website – “further our commitment to providing a first-class reading experience on emerging tablets, e-readers and other portable devices.”

The move comes a month after the launch of Google’s ebookstore, which claims to make more than 3 million titles available for reading on multiple OS, including Apple iOS, Sony’s E-Reader, Barnes and Noble’s Nook and its own Android OS. Google is staying quiet about what it plans to do with eBook Technologies, although some believe that it may be interested in using the company’s software as self-e-publishing tools for authors.
