Your Choice of Email Domain Says a Lot About You

Do you feel a propensity to sign up for one email domain over another? Have you noticed that most of your address book consists of people who use Google Chat or Yahoo! Messenger? Just don’t get why people would stick with one old domain over another?

Hunch looked through the stats of their users and asked them about which of the four major free email providers – Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL, and Hotmail – they used and their personalities. Taking their answers, they came up with profiles for the average person who uses a particular email domain. Which scenario fits you the best?

Note: No choice is better than the rest. If you feel it makes you sound bad, don’t blame us. We’re just interpreting the results.

Email Domain A

You’re a thin male optimist (or pessimist, depending on the situation) between the ages of 18 to 34. You went to college where you learned your heathen non-religious, liberal ways, and are now career-focused in a city. You’re tend to be introverted and entrepreneurial, which is a nice way of saying you’d rather work alone. You also tend to be single and childless. You like to travel and have been to at least five different countries.

You can’t live without your iPhone and laptop, where you constantly like to peruse blogs. Forget the radio and CDs: You download music digitally. The one piece of tech you don’t own is a DVR – who watches TV anyway? (Not going to lie: You’re starting to sound a little pretentious.)

Email Domain B

You’re an average weight, pessimistic female under 34. You graduated high school and decided to stick around in the suburbs.  That doesn’t mean you’re not traveled: You have been to up to five different countries. You enjoy reading magazines and contemporary fiction while snacking on sweets. You’re a great team player, but for now you’re single and childless.

You like to use your laptop and listen to music on your computer or MP3 player. You too don’t like the concept of DVR since you don’t watch TV. You throw on a T-shirt and jeans even though you’re just in the house and have no one to impress.

Email Domain C

You’re an overweight optimist and in-your-face woman between the ages of 35 to 64. Family comes first and  you know what it’s like to be part of a team: You’ve been with your significant other for over ten years and are raising some young ones. You consider yourself spiritual, but not religious. You enjoy life in the suburbs and haven’t ventured past your home country.

At home, you lounge in sweats, read magazines and go on your desktop computer. The radio might be on in the background or the TV. You’ve got 1-3 DVRs going on at the same time to make sure you don’t miss your favorite programs.

Email Domain D

The glass is either half empty or half full for you outgoing, overweight women between the ages of 18 to 49. You’re just starting your family, which you love, have children and have been in a relationship for one to five years. You’re spiritual and find yourself in the political middle.

At home you’ll listen to the radio or CDs while you do chores in your pajamas. You have a 50/50 chance of owning a laptop or desktop.  You also enjoy the invention of DVR and have 1-2 systems in your home, and you munch on some sweets while you watch TV.
If you answered Email Domain A, you probably own a Gmail account. At home, you’re always ready for company since you like to relax in a T-shirt and jeans. Pass the pretzel: You love salty snacks.

If you answered Email Domain B, you probably are a Hotmail user. You’re not religious at all, and tend to vote for the middle when it comes to politics. You’d rather stay at home since you tend to be introverted.

If you answered Email Domain C, welcome to AOL! You probably have your high school diploma and settled down in the suburbs.  You too are politically in the middle of the road. One thing you love almost as much as your family are your sweets.

If you answered Email Domain D, Yahoo! is calling. There’s nothing like getting a breath of that country air or residing in the suburbs; you see no use in traveling outside your own country. You also have your high school diploma, but find your family a priority way more than your career.
