Nintendo: Wii Successor Will Arrive ‘When We Announce It’

Every console manufacturer has a successor in mind–it goes without saying. Well, unless you’re the games media, you’ve cornered Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto, you’re pestering him like the paparazzi, and he spits out something like this.

“Don’t ask! Even when the Wii launched we were developing new hardware, work on 3DS had already started… It’s a matter of when we announce it.” Which, according to Edge, is what he told them at a closed-doors event in London today.

Translation: “We’re already working on new ideas, you guys know that, which means this response neither confirms nor denies a thing!”

Pushing for a scoop (or just to catch Miyamoto off guard) Edge kept the pressure up, prompting Miyamoto to respond “Please wait… Be patient until we decide.”

Edge’s story title? “Miyamoto Admits Wii Successor Is Coming.”

Well yes, err, sort of. If you twist around, get your head up under, and screw your neck around like so, I suppose. But then Miyamoto might’ve said precisely the same thing two or three or four years ago and been just as accurate. Like he said “even when the Wii launched we were developing new hardware.”

Don’t fret, we’ll know what’s what soon (or then again, not so soon) enough.
