A rare outage has hit Yahoo Mail, with service down for a subset of users.
Yahoo has acknowledged the outage. Here’s the statement, as posted at The Next Web:
“Yahoo mail is currently inaccessible to some users. We are working to correct the issue and restore all functionality immediately. We know that this may have caused some inconvenience and we apologize to our users who might be affected.”
So for now, there’s no official answer on what’s causing the outage, or when users can expect Yahoo Mail to come back online. The Next Web speculates that a new Yahoo Mail beta rollout is to blame, but some beta users are getting their mail just fine.
Losing e-mail access can be frustrating experience, but at least this isn’t as nerve-racking as February’s Gmail outage, which temporarily deleted messages for some users.
According to Hitwise, Yahoo Mail is the most popular e-mail service in the United States by percentage of visits.
