Pitchify Patches Previews with Popular Pop Player

Music fans, make room in your bookmark folders. Pitchify is here to make it easier to find great music.

It does so by scanning popular music webzines (particularly Pitchfork and Drowned in Sound, but others are mentioned too) for high-scoring album reviews. Then it checks if those albums are on streaming service Spotify, and if so, adds ’em to the list.

The result is a constantly updated feed of excellent music in every genre you can think of, with instant free listening just a single click away. That’s because every artist, track and album in Spotify has its own unique address, which you can link to from the web just like linking to an MP3 file.

Because they have to score at least 8 out of 10 in more than one review, you can be sure that what’s featured is stuff that really gets the critics fired up. In a good way.

The site is almost entirely automated; updates go on Twitter too, if you’re that way inclined.

The only downer, of course, is that you won’t know just how great this idea is unless you can get access to Spotify – which isn’t terribly easy for American music fans right now.

For us Europeans, though, Pitchify is a godsend. Let’s hope Spotify can make it through the legal quagmire and launch a full US service soon, because if you love hearing new music, Pitchify totally deserves a prime spot on your bookmarks bar.
