A Tablet Fit for a Queen

Fresh from her grandmotherly role at the Royal Wedding, Her Majesty the Queen is taking things easy and settling down to the ordinary humdrum daily routine of a British monarch – playing Angry Birds, checking in on Foursquare, and poking all her international royal cousins on Facebook.

Probably.

This morning’s news says that Queen Liz II has asked for a Royal iPad to be delivered forthwith. Perhaps she prefers reading her RSS feeds that way.

Hip younger royals (the Princes William and Harry) lead the way with their own personal iPads, which they showed to Grandma. She was impressed enough to ask for one of her own.

This story comes from The Sun, the UK newspaper best known for its classic headline Freddie Starr Ate My Hamster, so make of it what you will.

But I suspect this one’s true. Unlike most of Britain’s recent Prime Ministers, the Queen is not afraid to embrace technology, and sees the internet as a useful way of getting royal messages out to the rest of the world without any interference by pesky journalists.

It’s pretty likely that there will be a royal iPad lurking on the royal couch. In fact, one iPad for each couch. They are royals, after all.
