If you’re President of the United States, you’ve probably got bigger fish to fry than worrying about writing 140-character updates online.
Obama, though, will finally start regularly tweeting from his Twitter account. If you thought the man himself had been doing the work himself this whole time, don’t be surprised: His staff has been handling the account for quite a while now.
The President’s reelection team announced on his personal website that the most-wired head of state will be taking a slightly more hands-on approach in the future. Obama’s personal tweets will be signed affectionately with the initials “-BO” appended to the end of each message.

Obama himself admitted back in 2009 that he had never used Twitter, though his account has been active since 2007. “I have never used Twitter. My thumbs are too clumsy to type in things on the phone,” he revealed to a group of Chinese students. (He did eventually send his first tweet sometime last year.)
Twitter has exploded in popularity for the past few years for eliminating the gap between commoners and high-profile figures like Ashton Kutcher, making a direct conversation possible. But as we’ve see in the past few weeks, it’s also unfortunately been the undoing of several government figures.

Over the weekend, Obama definitely had a message for the Twittersphere. Getting the ball rolling, he tweeted, “Being a father is sometimes my hardest but always my most rewarding job. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. –BO”
