LimeWire may have shut down last year, and finally settled its five-years-long lawsuit with the RIAA this May, but that doesn’t mean that its troubles are over. Now, the former file-sharing company is being sued by a representative of more than 12,000 independent record companies that feel the RIAA settlement unfairly favored the big labels.
Merlin BV, a company based in the Netherlands that counts bands like Arcade Fire and The National amongst its label clients, filed suit in New York last week after LimeWire failed to pay Merlin an additional $105 million (the amount the RIAA received in its settlement) that it claims was agreed upon prior to the May settlement. The new suit claims breach-of-contract.
