10 Things You Need to Know About ‘Madden NFL 12’

Every year, people complain about EA’s Madden franchise. I know; I’ve been one of them. “It’s the same game every year. Nothing’s really different.”

But this year’s edition of the best-selling football sim actually does look significantly changed from its most recent predecessors. EA Sports developers gave us a rundown of the recent tweaks and improvements that fans can expect to encounter in Madden NFL 12.

1. All-New Collision System

The all-new collision system allows fans to maintain full control of players up to the point of impact – from tackling to blocking – providing the most authentic collisions in franchise history.  This new system uses a player’s momentum and over 100 new tackle animations, including 40 gang tackles, to provide more impactful hits, stolen tackles, and consecutive hit tackling.

2. Dynamic Player Performance

The all-new Dynamic Player Performance feature enables fans to experience the highs and lows of authentic NFL football as player’s traits and tendencies rise and fall based on their performance throughout an entire game, just like in a real NFL game. No two players will play the same thanks to new ratings and traits that change dynamically throughout the game experience, throughout Franchise mode, and via regular roster updates.

3. Franchise Mode Enhancements

Madden NFL 12 Franchise Mode is packed with more than 100 new features and enhancements for franchise fanatics, including expanded rosters, cut days in preseason, an all-new rookie scouting system, a free-agent bidding system, player roles, hot and cold streaks in-season, and much more.

4. Online Communities

Online Communities provide an all-new way for Madden NFL gamers to meet and play. Fans can create and join communities of up to 2,000 like-minded players, competing in their own leaderboards based on customized game styles with more than 50 variables, including game length, gameplay sliders, game speed, penalties and more. Fans can play head-to-head games within their community or team up with fellow members to play ranked Team Play against other communities. Fans can join up to five communities at once to meet varying play styles.

5. Custom Playbooks

The number one most requested feature by fans in recent years, Custom Playbooks allow fans to build the ultimate game plan by modifying an existing playbook or creating a new one by selecting up to 400 offensive or defensive plays from 75 different playbooks. Fans can integrate their custom playbook into a game plan for use with the improved GameFlow system, which executes an authentic, situational game plan.

6. Concussions

In order to depict the seriousness of concussions, when a player is injured in-game, he will be tended to by the medical staff and then escorted off the field. If the injury is determined to be a possible concussion, the player will not be permitted back into the game. Madden NFL has been used to help teach football to several generations in regards to the rules and complexities of the sport, and this is an opportunity to drive awareness to the serious nature of head injuries.

7. Authentic Photo-Real On-Field Details

Madden NFL 12 features hundreds of visual improvements across all areas of the game, including new player equipment, helmet stickers, pylon and ball physics, a player degradation system that affects uniforms and helmets based on weather and field surface, 3D grass, and new player specific animations that showcase the personalities of each NFL player.

8. Madden Ultimate Team

9. GameFlow Quick Changes

GameFlow is a playcalling system that automatically selects the best play for a team based on situational, authentic NFL game plans. With Madden NFL 12, GameFlow now provides fine-tuned control, giving fans the option to choose a run or pass play before going to line. Fans can also scroll through the suggested plays in order to determine which play they would like to select. On defense, Gameflow now allows fans to switch between conservative, aggressive and balanced (default) on the fly.

10. NFL.com Fantasy Integration

Madden NFL 12 partnered with NFL.com Fantasy to give fans exclusive access to all of their NFL.com fantasy teams inside Madden NFL 12 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.  The feature provides fans with access to their fantasy league scoreboard, league standings, transaction history and the option to receive in-game fantasy score updates.
