Motorola Promises New Android Software Six Weeks After It’s Out

In a message coming straight from the horse’s mouth (via something known as “Twitter”), Motorola has promised to update its Android handsets to the newest version of the software—4.0, or “Ice Cream Sandwich”—within six weeks of its official release by Google. The promise came in direct response to a Twitter user who was concerned about getting his device loaded with the latest Android software.

AndroidAndMe has reported that the DROID RAZR, the DROID Bionic, and the Xoom are all getting the coveted update. Engadget recently reported that the Nexus S will get the update as well.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will get the honor of being the first Android 4.0 device to grace shelves in November, so it’s likely that we’ll see Motorola having the update ready sometime around the end of the year.

That’s not to say there might not be hiccups along the way. Though Motorola might have the updates ready six weeks after the official launch, wireless carriers could decide to take their time pushing out Ice Cream Sandwich.
