Giant Robot Snake Meets Walking Mechanical Spider

Titanoboa meets Mondo Spider! It sounds like the premise for a bad B-movie, but no, it’s all terrifyingly real, thanks to the artists and designers over at eatART.

In one corner, Titanoboa, the 35-foot electro-mechanic snake that uses its 20 aluminum vertebrae to crawl just like its flesh and blood cousins. In the other, Mondo Spider, the 1,700-pound mechanical arachnid that has personally transported people, emissions-free, around Burning Man.

Okay, so they didn’t engage in a free-for-all, robot battle royale, but it’s still cool to watch a snake that big crawl across the floor. It’s like a real-life version of the 1999 film Anaconda, except way more entertaining and with less J-Lo.

Oh, and if the concept of a giant mechanical snake didn’t scare you enough, consider this: The robot isn’t even finished yet. In the end, it’ll stretch 50 feet and will be covered in synthetic scales made of recycled high-density polyethylene. Sweet dreams, everybody.
