Is there anything more terrifying than the words “robotic snake?” There’s no reason to be scared of it, however, because it might save your life someday: ACM-R5 was designed by Hirose Fukushima Robotics Lab in Japan to perform search and rescue operations, slithering and even swimming into spaces that humans can’t reach.
It even has a camera in its front module, perfect for one day providing real-time footage to rescuers looking for people under rubble. All of ACM-R5 joints have separate CPUs, motors and batteries, meaning you can add or remove as many segments as you need.
Of course, no matter how big you make it, it’ll never be as terrifying as the 35-foot Titanoboa, although it’s probably a lot more useful.
