This clever $49.99 Kickstarter project aims to be an iPad keyboard so simple and ultra-portable that you barely remember you have it with you. It’s a molded piece of clear silicone that you plop on top of the iPad’s own landscape-orientation keyboard, letting touch typists find the home row and providing a bit of squishy travel instead of the thudding sensation of plunking your fingertips on a glass screen. When you’re not using it, you can fold it out of the way or fasten it to your iPad’s cover with magnets.
Touchfire isn’t a substitute for the Bluetooth keyboards from companies such as Logitech and Zagg, but it’s not really trying to replace them. What it does is make the iPad’s virtual keyboard just a little less virtual.
