As part of TIME’s look at how wireless technology is changing our lives, we partnered with data firm OpenSignalMaps to find out which cities had the spottiest service.

Worst Carrier: T-Mobile

Best Carrier: Sprint

Cell phone companies have a lot of area to cover around Jacksonville, one of the largest cities—in terms of square miles—in the United States. OpenSignalMaps’ rankings were determined based averages of at least 25,000 signal readings in each city, provided by Android users who have downloaded their app. From Jacksonville, more than 200,000 data points have been uploaded.
