While pod-based coffee machines have exploded in popularity recently, purists have scoffed at their inability to brew a passable cup. Starbucks’ $200 Verismo machine may not be able to convert many die-hards, but it does a more than admirable job of making the coffee pod experience interesting for the rest of us.
You can brew a standard cup, sure, but the Verismo has an espresso mode that, when used with espresso pods, kicks out a strong, shootable jolt of caffeine. There’s a milk-frothing setting as well, which uses special milk pods for making lattes and any number of the various drink recipe ideas included in the box. It bridges the gap between the simplicity of an in-home pod machine with the drink selection of your local Starbucks.
