Over at Slate, Farhad Manjoo has a piece about how Google’s HR department uses data to ensure its employees are as happy as possible. Some of the findings: five months of maternity leave at full pay cuts attrition in half, middle managers actually do matter, the hiring process should consist of no more than four interviews, base pay is more important than bonuses, and lunch lines should be about three to four minutes long.
