If you like your history big, bold and generally not very historical at all, the Total War real-time strategy series has you covered (nothing wrong with that, by the way). Rome II shuffles us back to antiquity and the rise of the Roman Republic, powered by something called the “Warscape Engine” — as you’d expect, the emphasis here is on visual splendor as you shift between Civilization-style strategic play and the sort of epic tactical battles that, all the way back in 2004, inspired The History Channel to use developer Creative Assembly’s then-Rome: Total War engine in its popular Decisive Battles series.
