Google strengthened its foray into robotic technology Friday after acquiring an engineering company known for its development of uncannily deft robots.
Boston Dynamics, an engineering company responsible for designing robots BigDog, Cheetah, WildCat and Atlas, is Google’s eighth robotic company purchase in the last six months, The New York Times reports.
The Waltham, Mass.-based company, is known for its advanced machines’ abilities to scale rough terrain and even travel at cheetah-like speeds.
Google has not indicated what it plans to do with all its robotic technology, and while it will honor existing military contracts, it doesn’t plan to take on new military contracts.
