Hey Techlanders! Here’s what’s going on in nerd news around the Web:
Happy Birthday, Episode V!: It’s been thirty years since what is renowned as the greatest film sequel of all-time, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, hit screens. In it’s honor George Lucus is releasing some never before seen photos and behind the scenes info to Entertainment Weekly. (I got to peek, and while it’s nothing earth shattering, it’s a fun look at the making of a great film.) Grab the issue, on newsstands tomorrow.
Because we love anything Mythbusters: Popular Mechanics has a great look at the making of The Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson’s new robot side kick, made specially by Mythbuster Grant Imahara.
Dear Parents, let me introduce you to the dangers of the Internet, part 76: A kid in the UK ran up a $1300 tab on his mother’s credit card playing Facebook’s stupid popular Farmville game, and no, the makers of the game aren’t letting him off the hook.
These video game posters are seriously rad: Click it. Do it. Do it! DO IT NOW!
Google search for “Fossil” yields some really real results: According to the L.A. Times, a man used Google Earth to discover more than 500 previously unsearched areas to find fossils over the past two years. According to the article:
“Professor Lee Berger at the University of the Witswatersrand in Johannesburg used Google Earth over the last two years to locate more than 500 previously undiscovered “caves and fossil sites” around the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site in South Africa.”
Most importantly, his findings helped paleoanthropologists discover a human species that pre-dated our “genus Homo” ancestors. This is seriously awesome, but I can’t help but wonder what this will do to my LOST theory?
Your Daily Dinosaur:
Hey, he’s dinosaur enough for me.
