Olympus has finally unveiled the long-awaited replacement to its E-3 DSLR camera, the E-5. It’s a 12-megapixel four thirds camera that’s due out in October with a starting price of around $1,700 for just the body.

The E-5 is compatible with both CompactFlash and SD cards, features 720p video recording at 30 frames per second, HDMI output, in-camera art filters, and packs a three-inch LCD screen that swivels up to 270 degrees.

Other features include a microphone jack for video recording, compatibility with standard four thirds lens attachments, splashproof and dustproof casing, and a cool "Dust Reduction System" that uses ultrasonic vibrations to shake dust particles off of the inside of the lens that normally can’t be removed without sending the camera to Olympus for servicing.

Full press release after the jump.
