In the early 1930s it wasn’t uncommon for American film studios to produce both the English and foreign-language versions of their films simultaneously, even using the same set. During the filming of the 1931 classic starring Bela Lugosi, Dracula came to life – but at night, he was embodied by actor Carlos Villarias, who played the Count for this Spanish-language version, an arguable improvement on the English original.
