Who watches the men that watch the world wide web? Apparently, the answer is “each other.” The Nielsen Company has filed a lawsuit against ComScore over five patents connected to the tracking, reporting and analysis of web traffic and computer activity, which Nielsen claims are being violated by ComScore. Interestingly enough, one of the patents, for a “Computer Use Meter and Analyzer,” was one that Nielsen itself found itself sued over in 2002, by Jupiter Media Matrix (That suit was settled out of court, with Jupiter receiving $15 million in exchange for the patent).
According to the Hollywood Reporter, which broke the story, Nielsen is asking for an injunction against further infringement as well as damages. ComScore has not responded to the lawsuit, which was filed in Virginia last Thursday, as yet.
