Nope, forget about Will and Kate. Their wedding didn’t even come close. Japan, the Super Bowl, the death of Bin Laden – these stories didn’t quite cut it either. Beyoncé’s baby bump has set a new Twitter record, with 8,868 tweets per second being logged.
While I’m not exactly sure why Beyoncé has surged past the previous records (maybe because it was a televised event that was broadcasted simultaneously in several major markets?), second place now goes to the U.S. women’s soccer team’s game against Japan in July. The end of that particular game recorded 7,196 tweets per second.

Bin Laden drew in 5,106 tweets per second, while the Super Bowl saw 4,064 tweets. Both the Japan earthquake and Royal Wedding drew substantially smaller numbers.
Talk about putting that record in the baby album. “Honey, the moment I announced I was pregnant with you on the VMAs, we set a brand new Twitter record.” And what’s going to happen when Beyoncé names the child? Twitpocalypse.
