Kutiman: The Blog Post at the End of the Universe

I claim the honor of being the very last blog in the universe to link to this Jonathan Coulton post about this YouTube mashup artist (I hate that I just said YouTube mashup artist):

I don’t know if all the scare talk about Kutiman actually getting sued for this has any basis in reality. It is a reality that contemporary copyright law is painfully at odds with contemporary culture’s interest in sampling, pastiche, parody, bricolage, etc. (If a culture can have an interest. You know what I mean.) I’ve been on both ends of this, as bricoleur and bricolee. There must be a happy medium that allows this kind of thing and which doesn’t totally discard the concept of intellectual property. I don’t know what it is. But somebody probably does.
