BSG

I’ve flown back and forth to NY, like, three times during the past month. To make the time pass more quickly, I started downloading Battlestar Galactica episodes to my iPhone on the recommendation of friends who claim the series rivals The Wire in its awesomeness. It does.

I don’t know why Lev resists it so much.

Review: Soulo Converts iPad into Karaoke Machine

Karaoke lovers typically fall into two categories: Those who enjoy it, and those whose arms have to be twisted to get up and sing in public. Enter Soulo, a software and microphone kit that can turn an iPad or other Apple device into a karaoke machine. It gives you instant karaoke in the privacy of your own home, or wherever you carry your Apple gadgets. That’s the idea, anyway.

FBI File on Steve Jobs Probed Apple Founder’s Drug Use, Character

The FBI’s 191-page file on the late Steve Jobs — released Thursday — reveals that the feds were keenly interested in the Apple founder’s character, as well as his past drug use and criminal history.

He resists because it goes against his brand. I believe that brand is ‘frightened away by anything awesome’.

    Quittner is my new hero.

And now we’ve got a man on the inside….

  • anon76

Insidious! And he’s the tech blogger too- its like having the access codes to the defense mainframe.

Lev does not want the time to pass more quickly. Lev is afraid of his own mortality.

Ironically, he could learn a lot from Starbuck in season 3.5.

  • Dave

There must be some way out of here…

  • dennitzio

No way. If Lev starts watching, then I have to be a cylon or whatever and copy him. I just don’t have that kind of time. I know, maybe my 5-yr-old daughter will get into it, then I can just kinda osmose. Yelling “frak it” in kindergarten won’t get her in trouble, will it?

  • Cliff

Oh come on, now you’re just trying to butter up the commenters.

  • pinagbayanan

“There’s no reason to get excited,” the thief he kindly spoke.

  • republibotthreepointoh

Perhaps Lev simply is skeptical by nature? Perhaps he suspects that if everyone acts all culty and raves about a show as though it has no downside, he suspects they just want him to join their cult? Perhaps he read the reviews of the final season and realizes the whole show just kind of craps out and betrays most of its stated goals in the first season?

Whatever the reason, Lev is right to resist it.

The second season was pretty great, though. I’d say the run through the Kobal arc from the end of the first season through the end of the New Caprica arc from the third was a really, really solid show, but then…well…run away Lev! Run away!

Hey man, I loved BSG, but it’s no Wire

  • tyrantking

I’m on the record on this blog as supporting Lev in his assbackwardness toward BSG. However, reading the comments on here reminded me that he really has no credibility in evaluating science fiction until he has seen the awesomeness that is the New Caprica rescue. For me, that scene is the new standard against which all contenders will be judged. So if you’ve never seen it Lev, then how can you know?

  • jthomann

Lev resists it because he’s an idiot who now sees it as some sort of badge of honor that he has never seen it.

  • republibotthreepointoh

Resisting the mindless “One of us” chanting is never an idiotic thing to do.

That said, Tyrantking is right: the New Caprica rescue was the high-water-mark of the series. Alas, the problem with high-water-marks is that it’s all downhill from there, mixaphorically speaking.

So Lev, what SF shows *do* you like? Just to silence these obsessive heathens…

You are not of the body?

  • republibotthreepointoh

No, Landru, I am not of the body. Nor am I Herbert. Reach?

  • anon76

    Lev, sadly, is definitely Herbert.

  • republibotthreepointoh

Well, yeah, that much is unquestionably true. Probably nonmutual as well.

  • dennitzio

wtf? Is that BSG or Scientology?

  • dennitzio

Poor Josh. Writes a post that is a clear cry for love to you BSGniacs here and STILL most of the comments are about LG. Only Kemper had the empathy to put Josh on the pedestal up with Lev.

  • anon76

I called him insidious. That’s like a free comparison to Christopher Lee: Nerd Gold!
I also compared him to Gaius Baltar (or perhaps Tricia Helfer- didn’t think it out too well). If that’s not love from a BSGniac, then I just don’t know what I can do.

  • anon76

That’s Star Trek (‘The way to Eden’- the one with the space hippies). Get with the nerd program, man.

  • dennitzio

Waitaminit, isn’t Landru from that Old West episode? I’m so confused.

  • nerdyengineer

Yes. The New Caprica rescue holds the title of Most Crowning Moment of Pure Awesome on TV to date.
