Monster Madness: The Sweet Sixteen, Part ll

Yesterday, we brought you news that our cinderella, Lucy Van Pelt, had finally fallen to The Kingpin on Oolong Island, while The Flood and The Reapers dominated in Rapture. But who will advance in Narnia and the Phantom Zone?

We’ve got some serious match-ups today. Will Dr. Horrible be able to take down King Kong? Can Darth Vader defeat Avatar‘s Colonel Quaritch? Then what about the epic match-ups between the Terminator and Tron‘s MCP, and Voldemort vs. Queen Jadis?

These robots aren’t just some animatronic dance troupe from an amusement park; no, these machines can actually judge if they’re a step or two behind the rest of the dancers and catch up.

The predictions are getting harder and harder….

    PHANTOM ZONE
Darth had better win. I know he’s more machine than man now and all, but we have to recall that the MCP, despite its intelligence, is still running on code that was written in the 1980s. It would be crazy if it could operate on the likely completely different and much more advanced computers, nothing at all like the ones we have on Earth, at all. It would be like some steampunk guy with a vacuum tube calculating machine trying to hack into the CIA mainframe. (Note: this qualm applies to the MCP beating the Borg and the Terminator as well). Darth can call up a Galactic Empire software engineer to get rid of the little bug in the Death Star’s super-duper-mega-quadra-tera-gigaflop computers and that’s the end of that.

    NARNIA
As much as I truly love Dr. Horrible, he’s no match for Voldemort. Reducio! There goes the freeze ray. Expelliarmus! Voldy’s got the death ray. Crucio! Just for fun. And then Avada Kedavra! In Pace Requiscat, Dr. Horrible. You will be missed.

    THE RAPTURE
It would appear that all bets are off in this quarter of the board. I’m not familiar with these characters (if the word can encompass such things), so a quick rundown on Wikipedia has helped me form the opinion that the Reapers will win. Even though the Flood is extremely far-flung and powerful, the Reapers are even moreso (my Kardashev estimates for the two are extremely dichotimous), and it doesn’t sound like the Flood is equipped to deal with trying to assimilate large synthetic spaceships.

    OOLONG ISLAND
It’s once again difficult to decide who, out of the two large bald guys, would win. What it comes down to is looking at the quality of superheros that these guys routinely spar with. Lex Luthor holds his own against the Man of Steel, Superman, one of the most powerful guys in the comics, whereas Kingpin sometimes fights Spiderman and (ooh ooh!) Daredevil. The caliber of Luthor’s long-standing nemisis is much greater than the quality of Kingpin’s long-standing nemisises, and that means that Luthor has a better caliber of resources and skills. Luthor wins.
