It’s undeniable that Machete has got to be one of the luckiest movies ever. From starting out as a fake trailer to becoming possibly one of the most socially relevant movies of the current day, Robert Rodiguez’s film has great timing. Here’s a brief look back at the legendary trailers that had people talking.

First, there was the fake trailer that was included with Rodriguez’s and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 film Grindhouse. Paying homage to theB-movies of yesterday, the hilarious preview starred Danny Trejo as a knife-wielding ex-Federale and Cheech Marin as a priest. But, after seeing so many people enjoy the premise, Rodriguez turned the short clip into a full length feature.

Rodriguez filmed the additional scenes (aka the rest of the movie) in 2009 and pulled in an awesome cast including Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez and most importantly, Steven Seagal. While the movie would have been entertaining during any time, the situation regarding Arizona’s immigration laws turned this spoof B-movie film into social commentary.

The final trailer for Machete has us all asking one question: Where’s Lindsay Lohan? She plays “The Sister,” a drugged-out, gun-toting model seeking revenge. Her co-stars have spoken highly about her role on the film, but she’s nowhere to be seen in her nun’s habit in the final cut of the trailer. It caused a stir online, giving the film an added boost of attention.

Now all that remains to be seen is if the movie lives up to the hype. If the IMDB ratings have anything to say about it, people seem mighty pleased with the final product.
