NYT Confirms Verizon iPhone

Dreams do come true.

The New York Times is confirming the rumors of a Verizon iPhone based on an anonymous source directly connected to Apple.

Rumors of a Verizon-Apple collaboration have circulated for years, with the most recent a report by the Wall Street Journal, however, this latest story by the NYT should be the last nail on the rumor’s proverbial coffin even though Verizon and Apple have still declined to make an official announcement.

With Android’s rapid ascent as a viable platform, Apple has no choice but to end its exclusivity with AT&T, or else risk losing its dominant market share in the lucrative mobile market.

It’s about time too.

I’ve been waiting since the original iPhone launch for this to happen and when it does, I shall finally have a smart phone. Whether or not this shall make me any smarter still remains to be seen.

Will you drop your current carrier/cell phone for a Verizon iPhone?

I might be tempted but I’ve been with AT&T forever and I have a really really good plan that I haven’t been able to find anyone else that can match it. I live outside Chicago and I know that AT&T has a bad rep for its service but I don’t have that many problems. I don’t think I have anything about my cell phone to bitch about than anyone else :)

IN A HEARTBEAT! I was with Verizon Wireless for 12 years and LOVED their service. On JUne 29, 2007 I left Verizon and got an iPhone. For more than 3 years I have been unhappy with my cellular network but thrilled with my smartphone.

For more than a decade, the mobile industry has been peddling smartphones. Many were great phones but handset manufacturers were cramming lousy computers into good phones and the result was an expensive phone.

Apple came out with a great little new computing device that happened to be capable of telephony and the rest is history. They raised the bar in the smartphone space and handset manufacturers were forced to innovate or die.

When Verizon fixes their biggest mistake ever – not going with iPhone on day one – I will come back immediately. They have the superior network hands down.

When everyone flocks to verizon, my ATT service will become normal again as the bandwidth eases up. More service for me!!!
