Benoit Mandelbrot, best known for his theories on fractal geometry, passed away on October 14. His best known theory, the Mandelbrot set, describes numbers where each successive value is a magnification of the previous entry. He dedicated his life to explaining mathematics concepts to the general public and exploring theĀ mathematicsĀ universe. Mandelbrot was 85.
