Directors Step Up To Take On Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Now that David O. Russell has officially relieved himself from duty on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, it seems that a lot of director’s ears have perked up to the possibility of directing undead classic. The Wrap reports that the studio is still set on using Jonah Hill and Emma Stone (though Deadline is reporting that it’s Bradley Cooper and Scarlett Johansson respectively so who knows), and now several people are trying to free their schedules to work on the project.

They’ve named these people interested in the director’s chair:

- Matt Reeves from Cloverfield and Let Me In

- Mike White, directed Year of the Dog and wrote Freaks and Geeks, Nacho Libre, School of Rock

- Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs and will do the upcoming 21 Jump Street

- Jonathan Demme, you know that guy who did that little movie Silence of the Lambs

- David Slade from Twilight: Eclipse

- Mike Newell who directed Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

- Neil Marshall from The Descent

Personally I’m a fan of Demme (he also did Rachel Getting Married), and The Descent was a good foray in the horror genre. But Pride and Prejudice and Zombies should be lighthearted and fun, and I’m not convinced that some of these rumored individuals wouldn’t take the movie in too serious of a direction. At least they’ve stopped with the rumors about Darren Aronofsky, whose recently been tapped to direct everything until he finally admitted he’s doing Wolverine 2.

Although “The Descent” was pretty fantastic in itself…let’s not forget the Neil Marshall gem “Dog Soldiers”…that had the perfect level of horror, gore, camp, and comedy that something like “P&P&Z” could use.

Of course, I’m sure he won’t get picked…but if he did, I bet he’d do a bang up job.
