Best Buy Doesn’t Play Favorites, Will Carry Verizon iPhone

Best Buy announced today that they will be carrying the Verizon iPhone and the AT&T version in a move that surprised some customers. Rumors had been circulating that Best Buy was not going to carry the Verizon iPhone at launch and was instructing their employees to tell customers that the AT&T network was technically faster. “Clearly these rumors proved to be false, and Best Buy does not benefit from pushing one carrier over another when we support both,” a Best Buy spokesperson told Techland by email.

“Our goal is simple – make it as easy as possible for people to find the phone that is right for them. It’s why we offer the most smart phones under one roof and from multiple carriers – it’s all about choice. Launching the iPhone 4 on Verizon’s network is our latest effort to deliver. Best Buy Mobile has worked hard to develop our mobile business so customers are getting the best selection anywhere, expert advice, price and service in the marketplace,” they added.

The Verizon iPhone will retail for $199 for the 16GB and $299 for the 32GB model with a new or qualified upgrade with two-year agreement. It will be available February 10 in Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores, the day the model is available to the public.

“The iPhone 4 is an important device for Best Buy and we are excited to help Apple and Verizon Wireless bring it to even more consumers,” Best Buy Mobile president Shawn Score said in the press release. “Our customers have come to expect Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores to carry the best selection of mobile phones anywhere, and offering the iPhone 4 on Verizon’s network is our latest effort to deliver on that promise.”
