Behind the Scenes of ‘TRON: Legacy’s’ Light Jet Battle Sequence

Whether you liked the movie or not, one of the best parts of TRON: Legacy was the light jet battle sequence near the end of the film. The futuristic light-lined planes engaged in an aerial fight set to Daft Punk’s music showcased the capabilities of 3D animation.

“It was the logical evolution of the light cycle is that there would have to be a light jet,” said writer Edward Kitsis in the TRON: Legacy extra features. The movie will be out on Blu-Ray and DVD on April 5. “A lot of time were spent on light jets because we’re geeks.”

If you were interested in finding out what the crew was envisioning and what it looked like behind the scenes, take a look at the exclusive preview clip from TRON: Legacy’s DVD and Blu-Ray bonus material. Seeing the transformation from the physical structures the cast filmed in to the final computer generated imagery we see on the screen is impressive, and it’s clear that it took a lot of innovation – and imagination – to come up with the sequence.

Hey (completely out of this post), Firefly is coming back! I’d believe it is if you put it on here. :)

Firefly is not “coming back”. The cable rights to the series have been purchased by the Science Channel, which will now show it accompanied by short sequence in which Michio Kaku explains the concepts behind the show’s technology. And Nathan Fillion has expressed a willingness to go back to the character of Mal. But neither of those things means new episodes.
