Apple’s upcoming Mac App Store hopes to make the process of finding, downloading and installing computer software as simple as downloading apps on an iPhone or iPad. The store will launch in 90 countries on January 6 for users running the Snow Leopard version of Apple’s operating system.
Software applications will be available in both free and for-pay versions and anything you download on one Mac will be available for you to use on any other Macs you may own. Multiple applications can be updated at once, too, with a one-click process similar to how mobile apps receive updates.

Applications will undergo an approval process overseen by Apple, so the ones available in the store will theoretically be free of viruses and malware. Developers are free to set their own prices, with Apple taking a 30% cut of any revenue generated.
