Mark Zuckerberg
Claim to Fame: A little something called Facebook
Net Worth: $7 billion
What He’s Done: Gave $100 Million to Newark Schools; pledged half of his net worth to charity
You may have heard of Mark Zuckerberg. One time we even put him on the cover of our magazine.
But what you might not know about the hoodie-clad Facebook maestro – which, after its latest round of funding managed to raise a hefty $500 million; the New York Times reported that this raised the company’s valuation to a whopping $50 billion dollars – is that he’s joined other billionaires like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates in a pact called The Giving Pledge, which offers up at least half of his wealth to charity during his lifetime or after.
In a statement, Zuckerberg said, “People wait until late in their career to give back. But why wait when there is so much to be done? With a generation of younger folks who have thrived on the success of their companies, there is a big opportunity for many of us to give back earlier in our lifetime and see the impact of our philanthropic efforts.”
Not bad for a 26-year old worth $7 billion.
