It’s Monday! Time for some handpicked gadget deals.
$100 off any tablet: Prices vary at Staples
Whoa-ho-hold it. Here’s a wheel of a deal on tablets from Staples—$100 off any model sold in stores, to be precise. And by “any” we’re not talking the iPad, which Staples doesn’t sell; we’re not talking the HP TouchPad; and we’re not talking e-book readers like the Kindle and Nook. Aside from THAT, though, everything else is fair game.
You’ll have to actually drive to a Staples store, too, but—hey—a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks.
Refurbished Roku HD player: $40 at Woot (today only)
Ladies and gentlemen, this happens about as often as an eclipse. This is a deal so nice that even I bought it—and I’m the cheapest skate there is.
Forty bucks gets you a refurbished Roku box for wirelessly streaming Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Video, MLB.com and more to your TV. Forty bucks! Sure, the new Roku2 HD only costs $60, but that extra twen-ski can be exchanged for all sorts of goods and services in the real world.
The deal is good today only.
Sony 24-inch Google TV: $300 at Sony
This thing cost $600 when it first came out. It’s now a far, far, far more reasonable $300 direct from Sony.
We’re looking at a 24-inch 1080p television with built-in Google TV features—web browser, online video, apps, and the like. There’s a comically large remote control with full QWERTY keyboard included as well so you can surf the web and update Twitter while you’re watching the tube.
VueZone internet security camera: $130 at Amazon (today only)
This jobber runs for around $200 elsewhere, but Amazon’s kicking it out the door at $130, today only. I actually reviewed this system way back when it first came out and I can confirm that it works pretty well.
You’ve got a base station that you plug into your router, and there’s a little tiny wireless camera that you can mount just about anywhere. When the camera detects motion, it’ll start recording and shuttle the video up to the internet for later viewing. You can also use the web or your smartphone to check out real-time video. All that for $130—not too shabby.
Garmin Nuvi 1300 GPS: $70 at CowBoom (today only)
Best Buy-owned CowBoom.com is discounting the 4.3-inch Garmin Nuvi 1300 GPS system—it’s available for $70, today only. The same system sells new elsewhere for around $100.
The GPS unit includes preloaded maps of the U.S. (except Alaska) and Puerto Rico, spoken turn-by-turn directions, and a memory card slot for playback of music files.
