Forget about Apple’s store on Fifth Avenue – soon you might want to head on over to Grand Central Station instead. Want to grab an iPad while you’re waiting for your next train? That might be a closer reality than you think.

Apple has proposed a new storefront within New York’s iconic Grand Central Station. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will vote on the proposal Monday, and if it passes, the board will again vote on its authorization Wednesday. If the MTA gives Apple the big thumbs up, the store could be ready to go in as little as four months.

It’s not all roses for just Apple: The deal would greatly benefit the transit organization as well. New York transportation officials said that it could potentially bring $5 million in revenue for the MTA alone.

The store would take up more than 23,000 square feet, outstripping Apple’s Fifth Avenue flagship store. But Apple is paying a high price to take over Charlie Palmer’s “Metrazur” restaurant lease, which now occupies the space, at $5 million. According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple would also pony up $1.1 million in rent to the transportation board each year.

Pat Foye, one of the MTA’s board members, said that the new opening would further “not only a digital, but a cheeseburger divide” between Grand Central and Penn Station, New York City’s other major transport hub. At least that’s what I think he was talking about, and not merely about the Shake Shack opening up just down the stairs.
