Here’s another slightly more intimidating shot of the Berzerker. Putting him down in the demo required careful team coordination. For instance, the squad member carrying a rocket launcher — the only conventional weapon that’ll take a Berzerker down — wound up suppressed by a muton (an alien from the original 1994 game) just across the way from the Berzerker, who proceeded to advance toward his position. Gulp. “So we have a sniper up top on the roof, but he doesn’t have a shot because the wall and the roof are blocking him from taking one,” says design lead Jake Solomon, narrating.
The solution: Launch a three-person combo by bringing up an assault soldier and using a special ability called “run and gun” that lets her move really far and shoot in the same turn to sneak behind the alien suppressing the guy with the rocket launcher. That accomplished, the rocket-launcher-guy is able to fire, hits and eliminates the Berzerker…as well as the rest of the building’s wall and roof. For the trifecta, the sniper — now able to shoot through the rooftop hole — head-shots the remaining muton. Mission accomplished!
