SpheroRobotics are certainly changing the way the world works, and with Sphero 2.0, they’re also changing how we play. A robotic, remote-controlled ball that's invulnerable to drops, water resistant, and even pet proof, this Bluetooth-connected toy interacts with smartphone apps in a variety of ways. If there was a knock on the original Sphero, it’s that it was a one-trick pony, and a slow one at that, but the sophomore effort is powered by a faster engine that makes the ball haul. Its internal LEDs are also three times brighter — a necessity for when you’ve got it clad in its new “Nubby” cover, a rugged rubber casing that lets it get traction outdoors. With a pair of ramps, more than 25 apps (many free), and new uses being dreamed up all the time, the $130 device can function as everything from a hot potato to a game controller. In other words, when it comes to long term usability, this ball has legs.
