In XCOM, you monitor the globe for signs of alien infestation, then deploy squads to deal with the threat and collect evidence for your scientists to research. In a demonstration of one of those deployments conducted by the Firaxis development team, we dropped by a gas station overrun by sectoids (the classic gray aliens with black, almond-shaped eyes). The game feels a bit like Valkyrie Chronicles on the surface, where each combatant has so many movement points per turn and can move freely through the environment until they’re spent (or they’re forced to react to something, like incoming fire). The camera defaults to isometric (angled top-down view) but automatically zooms to eye level where situationally appropriate, as in this shot.
