Our world might have a lot of problems, but Vincent Callebaut thinks he has the right idea on how to solve them. The Belgian architect has designed ways to solve our environmental and societal woes that combine technology and visual aesthetics.

From a vertical farm that could provide New York City residents with locally grown food to an anti-smog air cleaner that could sit on the banks of the 19th arrondissement of Paris, if his quirky ideas work they might be able to solve our biggest worries. It’s all very sci-fi, like the Lilypad – a constantly moving, floating island that could host 50,000 citizens to solve our growing habitable space issues, complete with three marinas, shops and entertainment  – but we’re not so far from the future.
