I recently played a bit of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and rest assured, it’s the Donkey Kong Country you know and love (or know and don’t, though you’d have to hate platformers to diss this series). Developed by the same team behind the critically lauded Metroid Prime trilogy and Donkey Kong Country Returns, it covers plenty of known ground, but oh what gorgeous ground.
The twists? You can play as Dixie Kong, who sports a ponytail you can use to gain extra height, and you can now attack while underwater, refilling your air gauge by bumping into bubbles.
Update: Alas, in a Nintendo Direct on Tuesday, October 1, Nintendo said Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is now delayed until “February 2014.”
