If only the Virtual Physiological Human were here now, we’d all be equipped with exact measurements for our online shopping. Alas, since we’re not quite there yet, we have to rely on solutions from the cyber fitting room. Some include mannequin robots that swell or shrink to our size, in order to show how a piece of clothing would look on our bodies. Others use Xbox Kinect-like technology to paste the garment on to a video image of ourselves. TriMirror is instead introducing a technology where you make an avatar of yourself, who will try a pair of jeans or sweater on for you, marking out the places where it’s tight or loose. Since it still involves you taking the actual measurements, or making guesstimates, retailers will have to deal with returned clothes from online stores for a while longer.
