If you can look past its giant, freaky eye and its disturbing skinless body, this robot from researchers at the University of Sussex is actually not a bad candidate for DARPA’s contest. It’s an anthropomimetic robot which means that it doesn’t just mimic human movement — it mimics human biology. All of its bones, tendons and muscles may one day lead to a robot that moves more naturally than today’s stiff machines.
Pros: Very flexible, designed for human environment.
Cons: No legs, looks like something out of a horror movie.
