Outlast was the sleeper hit that everyone was talking about during E3, so before I even played this psychological horror game, I had already heard that it had caused one person to faint. (I later confirmed it with the developers.) In Outlast, you play journalist Miles Upshur as he investigates an anonymous tip about a local asylum. You have no weapons and no fighting skills; only a camera to help you see in the dark. You’ll hear every crack in the floorboards as Miles creeps through dimly-lit hallways, along with his heavy breathing as he runs and hides from dangerous creatures. There are plenty of jolts and jumps along the way; if I didn’t have the constant chatter of E3 to comfort me, I might have fainted too.
