Alcatel-Lucent has declared war on Apple, Canon, LG and TiVo with a new lawsuit alleging that each of the companies is knowingly using Alcatel-Lucent patented technology without appropriate royalty payment. For this week’s Technologizer column over at TIME.com, I wrote about how the current version of TiVo stacks up against Google TV, Apple TV, and other Internet-only newcomers. (Short version: It retains some cool advantages, but I’m rooting for TiVo to release some all-new boxes that take on the personal-TV whippersnappers more directly.)
Everyone’s favorite DVR fanatics have just announced a revolutionary new product to compliment the rest of their illustrious line of goods, the TiVo Slide Remote. The QWERTY slider connects via Bluetooth and is available starting today for $89.99 on the TiVo website. Best Buy will begin carrying the remote this weekend.
