Soon, you can have PlayStation news on your smartphone. According to the official PlayStation blog, developers are finishing touches on the Android and iPhone apps for the gaming company. The app will be compatible with iPhones and iPod Touches with a minimum OS 4 and most Android phones OS 1.6 and above. The first version will be available for the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands, meaning those of us who reside stateside have to wait a little longer.

So, what can the free – yes, as in costs no money – app do for you? You can check out your PlayStation Network trophies and your friends’ achievements and status online, plus see if there is new games and hardware for your PS3, PSP or PlayStation 2. All the announcements on the European PlayStation blog will be downloaded directly to your phone, and you can share everything you read via Facebook, Twitter or e-mail. It is a bummer that the app won’t be released in the US yet, but not as much as the fact that we won’t be able to demo games on our phone. It is free though, so we shouldn’t be complaining, and it’s a great way to keep up to date with PlayStation news. The blog post added they are working on more countries and languages right now and will be announcing new features and the launch date soon.
