For some, fashion is all about creating a look that people gravitate toward. For Leandra Medine, creator of The Man Repeller, fashion is more about creating a look that people, particularly men, run away from. Since 2010, the 23-year-old has been documenting her personal brand of fashion-forward style, which eschews staples like the little black dress or snug silhouettes. Instead Medine prefers to dress in a “sartorially offensive mode that may result in repelling members of the opposite sex.” She routinely features ensembles with mismatched layers, piles of jewelry, drop-crotch trousers and even, ahem, overalls. Both Medine’s style and her witty, irreverent observations have the fashion world hooked.
