Despite its $50 price tag (with a two-year AT&T contract), Pantech’s Discover manages to offer above-average specs and some interesting features. The phone has a 4.8-inch 720p display, a dual-core processor, a 12.6-megapixel camera, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. It also includes “3D Surround Sound” speakers, which pack a decent punch, and its camera has advanced features like burst shooting, HDR photography and a “Best Face” setting to capture everyone when they’re smiling.
The main drawback is that the Discover only ships with Android 4.0, rather than the newer Android 4.1, but Pantech says it will be updated down the line. Even without latest Android software, the phone was smooth and responsive in my brief hands-on time. It’s available from AT&T now.
